The association for playful preparedness · Est. on Earth

A little greener. A little more crypto. A little more together.

GIHC makes resilience fun. Together we prepare for the second-worst — with campfires, solar power, first aid, mesh radio and room to laugh when the plan falls apart.

  • All ages
  • No experience needed
  • Learn through play
01

Play is serious

Preparedness does not have to be dry, gloomy or expensive.

02

Everyone can join

Children and adults. Hands and heads. Curiosity before qualifications.

03

Practise together

It is easier to handle hardship when you know your neighbour.

04

Build locally, share globally

Each cell finds its own rhythm. We share the identity and the friendships.

01 / Scenarios

We prepare for the second-worst.

Not doomsday. But the days, weeks or months when power, connectivity and supplies become a challenge. These situations can be managed if we have practised a little and know our neighbours.

Days01

Without power

We cook over fire, light our homes without the switch and stay warm together.

FireFoodWarmth

One week02

Without internet

Radio, mesh networks, maps and clear agreements with the people around us.

Project: GIHC Mini-Mesh

Six months03

Under supply pressure

We practise growing, fermenting, storing, repairing and sharing.

GrowShareRepair

It is not about fearing the future. It is about being a little more ready for it.

02 / Activities

Four ways to practise.

We meet in a regular venue, outdoors and through play. Sometimes with tools in hand. Other times with a radio, a map or a story.

Format 01

Workshops

Evenings where we build something tangible together: a solar charger, mesh radio, fermentation jar or a clay bread oven.

Children often get their own side mission.

Format 02

Camps

Weekends where we rehearse whole scenarios through play. A Saturday without power. A Sunday without GPS.

Tents, fire, radio and star maps.

Format 03

Ongoing training

A regular weekly rhythm with gymnastics, running and rotating modules in physical and digital first aid.

Our bodies should be able to do more than sit in front of a screen.

Format 04

Games

Role-playing and capture the flag, physical and digital. The scenario might be: “The neighbourhood has been offline for three days — what do we do?”

We play ourselves wiser.

03 / Hybrid Cleverness

Old knowledge meets new tools.

We stand on the shoulders of the scout movement, hacker culture, the volunteer preparedness tradition, the green transition and decentralised networks. Not as contradictions — but as tools in the same toolbox.

Hybrid Cleverness is not an app. It is the ability to use our heads, hands and one another when it matters.

04 / Community

Curiosity is the only ticket you need.

GIHC is for families and individuals of all ages. You do not need any prior knowledge — only a willingness to try.

  • Children and adults learn best together.
  • Children are welcome to bring an adult.
  • We start locally and share materials and friendships across cells.

Manifesto / short version

It should be fun to be prepared.

We believe

  • Play is the fastest route to learning.
  • Children and adults learn best together.
  • We can practise resilience without being gloomy.

We practise

  • Soldering, building and repairing.
  • Communicating when the network fails.
  • Playing ourselves wiser.
